WHAT ARE THE PURPOSES OF THE PRIORITY WORKSHOPS?

PRIORITY 2: Budget Management and the Statutory and Regulatory Requirements for the Operation of Projects funded under the Federal TRIO Programs

The PRIORITY 2 workshop is intended to ensure that participants 1) understand how legislation and regulations shape a TRIO project's budget and management, 2) know how to develop or improve budget management processes in their TRIO Programs, 3) leave the workshop with a best practices model to implement in their TRIO Program, 4) Leave the workshop with information and materials to use as resources in their projects to shape effective budget and project management practices.

PRIORITY 3: Assessment of Student Needs, Retention & Graduation Strategies, including both secondary and post-secondary retention and graduation strategies, and the Use of Appropriate Educational Technology in the Operation of Projects funded under the Federal TRIO Programs 

The PRIORITY 3 workshop is intended to train participants how to 1) acknowledge and assess the diverse needs of TRIO students; 2) tailor support services to meet student needs; 3) implement strategies which improve retention & graduation rates; & 4) use educational technology to better serve TRIO students and projects.

PRIORITY 6: General Project Management for NEW PROJECT DIRECTORS with less than two years experience. This Priority, which includes the content of Absolute Priorities 1 through 3, provides new directors with the basic tools required to be a TRIO project director and serve TRIO students

The learning objectives of PRIORITY 6 will increase participants' knowledge and skills of:
1) basic management tools which will build success within TRIO projects; 2) methods to collect, record and analyze the data that will meet objectives of each TRIO Program; 3) effective strategies for reporting students and project performance to ED; 4) effective means of assessing student needs and tailoring counseling and support to their needs; 5) budget management through internal controls and financial management with special emphasis on fiscal governing documents; 6) information and resources on conducting a formative and summative evaluation in order to improve project and staff performance.


WHEN WILL REGISTRATION BE AVAILABLE FOR THE SAEOPP WORKSHOPS IN 2018?

As soon as the Dept. of Education announces ALL of the funded training workshops on its ED TRIO Home Page, registration will be open to the TRIO community.


HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A SAEOPP WORKSHOP?
You can register by clicking the "Priority" link above in which you are interested. When you submit the registration form, also fax or scan the Approval Page signed by your supervisor to the SAEOPP Center that you will receive. After your Approval Page is received, a confirmation letter will be emailed to you. It will contain important workshop details, including the reservation code with the hotel discount rate, as well as other information for your travel planning purposes. You will also be put on the participant list to receive additional information pertinent to the workshop for which you registered. 
 
PLEASE NOTE: If after you receive a confirmation letter and you do not attend the workshop without notifying the SAEOPP Center, the Department of Education has asked that your name be submitted as a "NO SHOW". 


WHAT DOES IT COST TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOPS?

There is no registration fee to attend any federally-sponsored TRIO Training Workshop! At the SAEOPP workshops, generally continental breakfast and lunch are provided at no cost to you; the specific meals to be provided will be indicated in your confirmation letter. Your primary costs will be associated with travel to the venue, a few meals, and lodging.


HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BE ACCEPTED TO A WORKSHOP?

When you complete all of the registration steps [complete and submit the online registration form and return the Signature/Approval Page signed by your supervisor], you will receive a confirmation letter of acceptance. You are advised NOT to make travel arrangements until you receive the confirmation letter.


WHEN DOES THE WORKSHOP BEGIN AND END?

The 2 & 1/2 day workshop begins with registration about 8:00 a.m. on the first day and ends around 1:00 p.m. on the last day. A tentative agenda at each Priority is available on this website.


WHAT ARE THE WORKSHOP TOPICS?

The workshop topics will be seen on the Workshop Agendas.


WHO CAN ATTEND?

Staff from any TRIO Program, those preparing for employment in TRIO programs, and Gear-Up Staff are eligible to attend the Priority workshops. However, only NEW Directors with less than 2 years experience can attend Priority 6. 


CAN I ATTEND MORE THAN ONE SAEOPP WORKSHOP IN 2018?

Yes, but TRIO personnel can attend only ONE workshop in each of the 6 ED Priorities, regardless of the venue! You also cannot repeat a Priority that you attended in 2017.

WILL ONE OF THE WORKSHOPS BE MORE USEFUL FOR NEW STAFF?

Yes, Priority 6 will provide basic project management tools on reporting student and project performance, budget management, statutory and legislation requirements, assessing student needs, retention and graduation strategies, and the use of appropriate educational technology. Only New Directors, with less than two years experience can register for Priority 6, which will be offered in San Antonio, TX and Scottsdale, AZ.
